Amid various events with Japan being canceled due to frosty ties,... the Korea-Japan Hanmadang Festival 2019 is taking place in Seoul on Sunday.
South Korea's vice foreign minister Lee Tae-ho and Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Norikazu Suzuki will also be attending the event.
As tensions between the two sides are high due to Japan's unfair trade restrictions on South Korea, all eyes are on what messages both diplomats send out.
The event has taken place every year since it began in 2005 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan ties, and it's now become the biggest and oldest civil interaction event between the two countries.
