About 3,000 members of Hong Kong’s legal profession staged a silent march on August 7, 2019, calling on the government to safeguard the city’s rule of law after 44 extradition bill protesters were charged with rioting shortly after being arrested. With a total of 589 arrested protesters, the lawyers fear that the prosecution is taking on an increasingly political slant. The Hong Kong Department of Justice didn’t respond to their concerns.
