US Is Preparing Withdrawal
of Thousands of Troops
From Afghanistan The troop withdrawal would
come as part of negotiations
between the Trump
Administration and the Taliban. The initial deal to end the
18-year-long war would result
in a cease-fire and see the
Taliban renounce al-Qaeda. Currently, there
are 14,000 American
troops in Afghanistan. If approved, the deal
would cut that number
to between 8,000 and 9,000. Zabiullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesperson,

have concerns the Taliban
won't break with al-Qaeda. With the Taliban in control
of the most territory since 2001,
violence in the country continues.
