Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said dozens of officers were working on the scene and expected them to uncover more information throughout the night. Smithee said the incident started at 5:41 p.m. He said there were reports of shooting on the northside of the garlic festival. Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect less than a minute after the shooting started, according to Smithee. The shooter was killed. Smithee said the shooter got into the festival through a creek. Police said witnesses indicated there may be a second suspect but it was unclear if that person was engaged in shooting or not.
