South Korea's finance minister Hong Nam-ki says he's considering allowing extended working hours outside the 52-hour maximum workweek system.
He says this in order for local companies affected by Japan's export restrictions to spend more time developing materials used to manufacture semiconductors.
The remarks came in a meeting earlier today with relevant ministries to discuss countermeasures to Japan's export curbs.
Other measures include shortening the time for licensing on chemical substances and seeking financial support for the companies.
The ministers also checked on the aftermaths that could arise if Seoul is excluded from Tokyo's export whitelist.
