G7 finance ministers 'agree in principle' to tax global digital tech giants

Finance ministers of the Group of Seven nations have "agreed in principle" to tax digital tech giants such as Google and Facebook on their offshore income.
At a meeting outside Paris on Thursday, the finance chiefs reached consensus on "a minimum level of effective taxation" the tech giants should stump up.
However, an actual rate of taxation wasn't decided.
France hailed the consensus, but the U.S. stressed that more work needs to be done.
Earlier this month, France's parliament passed a law to tax tech giants for income earned in a country other than their home country.
The U.S. reacted by complaining the law discriminates against U.S.-based firms, such as Amazon and Apple.
