South Korea's foreign ministry says... the UN Security Council's North Korea sanctions committee recently approved Seoul's request to destroy a ship being held in South Korea for illegal ship-to-ship transfers of oil products to the North.
The ship has been held in Pyeongtaek since December 2017... and Seoul asked for the UN's approval to scrap the vessel in mid-May.
This is the first time that a ship is being disposed of for violating UN sanctions.
The ministry says the case will send a clear message to the international community that such violations can result in such measures.
