Supermassive Black Holes May Have Formed Over A Brief Period, Then Stopped Suddenly

Traditionally, it's been thought that supermassive black holes form after the collapse of a star, but Western University of Ontario researchers believe they may have formed through "direct collapse" over a brief period of about 150 million years.
