South Korea's ruling Democratic Party is calling for a change to the law to prevent standstills in parliament, like the one that just ended, and ensure lawmakers are working year-round.
In a policy speech Wednesday,... floor leader Lee In-young apologized to the people for not getting work done and for the delay in the government's proposed extra budget.
The National Assembly is finally back on track after 80 days of partisan conflict.
Lee also said there needs to be a system that allows lawmakers to be recalled and penalties for those that don't actually do work.
The key, he said, going forward will be coexistence, and he called for patience and concessions from all sides.
On the government's drive for peace on the Peninsula, he asked for the parties to work together to support it, saying that last weekend's meeting of the leaders at the DMZ is a sign that hostilities are over.
