Just hours after Trump dropped a bombshell on Twitter,... proposing to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the DMZ,... Pyeongyang has responded to his suggestions.
Our Lee Min-sun tells us more.
In response to U.S. President Donald Trump's sudden proposal to meet Kim at the DMZ,... North Korea's First Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui said it's a very interesting suggestion.
In a statement released through the Korean Central News Agency, Pyeongyang's state-run media,... Choe said a North Korea-U.S. summit at the inter-Korean border would be a very meaningful occasion.
She said it could help the two leaders build deeper rapport,... and move bilateral relations forward.
Although Choe was intrigued by Trump's invitation,... she said her government had not received an official request from Washington.
Pyeongyang's reaction time was exceptionally quick,... with the statement coming just hours after Trump's tweet.
Dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea has been on ice,... since their second summit in Hanoi ended without a deal.
Also, Pyeongyang had blasted Washington in recent weeks,... accusing the U.S. of engaging in hostile actions,... including its extension of unilateral sanction on the regime for another year.
Amid this backdrop,... expectations were running low on the two leaders' meeting actually taking place... despite Trump's suggesting as such on Twitter.
However, North Korea's positive feedback... has fueled renewed speculation that a summit between Kim and Trump could indeed materialize... during the U.S. President's visit to South Korea..
