Lends Basquiat Work
for 'Police Brutality' Exhibit On Friday, the
Guggenheim opened its show,
"Basquiat's 'Defacement': The Untold Story." Basquiat's painting,
"Defacement," is
about graffiti artist
Michael Stewart,
who was beaten to
death by police in
1983 after being
arrested for tagging. The exhibit has "approximately 20 paintings
and works on paper created in the years
surrounding Stewart's death." The Guggenheim, via statement Though reps for the museum
won't say who had loaned them
a particular piece for the exhibit, Page Six has learned that
Jay-Z supplied the 1982 piece
of art, "CPRKR," for the show. "CPRKR" was made
as a tribute to jazz
musician Charlie Parker.
