Throughout the years Eileen Myles has written a wide range of poems, books, and other works. These include: “Chelsea Girls,” “Not Me,” “Bread and Water,” “The New Fuck You: Adventures in Lesbian Reading,” “Afterglow: A Dog Memoir,” “I Must Be Living Twice,” “Cool For You,” “Sorry, Tree,” “Skies,” “Inferno,” “Evolution,” and “Snow-Flake.”
Poetry is so many different things to different people. "Poetry is never any one thing, or fitting into something, or, I think even serving something's needs exactly," says Myles.
In 1992, Eileen Myles ran for President of the United States of America. Reflecting back, Myles says, "I represent people making under $50,000 a year, females, queers, activists, I mean there were so many people that I represented, you know, that I thought if all those people voted for me, I would win." Eileen did not win election, however 14 years later, on November 6, 2016, Eileen Myles delivered a long-awaited acceptance speech, as part of a performance.
In this episode of Legendary, hosted by Javior Muñoz, Eileen Myles opens up about their experiences as an American poet, running for president, and Eileen also shares some advice for young poets.
