Deputy Faces Charges
Over Inaction Former Deputy Scot Peterson
faces 11 charges including child
neglect, perjury and culpable negligence. Peterson was the school
resource officer on campus
during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas
High School massacre in February, 2018. Security footage of Peterson
emerged that revealed he failed
to enter the building, opting
instead to remain outside. 17 people were
killed in the massacre. Dubbed "the Coward of Broward County,"
Peterson retired after the shooting
and has been receiving a pension. He was fired on Tuesday
at a disciplinary hearing
conducted by the new Sheriff. He was booked into
Broward County Jail with
a bail to be set at $102,000.
