1,000 observers called on to ensure fair elections in Kazakhstan

Madrid, Jun 4 (EFE) .- Some 1,000 international observers have been called on to witness the legitimacy of presidential elections slated for June 9 in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, the first in 30 years without the country’s omnipotent leader, Nursulatan Nazarbayev, in the running.
The foreign observers include representatives from 10 organizations, including delegations from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The Kazakh ambassador to Spain, Konstantin Zhigalov, stressed on Tuesday in an interview with Efe the importance of such a large contingent of international observers, along with 250 foreign journalists.
