2040년까지 재생에너지 비중 30-35% 확대

During today's cabinet meeting, the government finalized plans to raise the share of the country’s power output generated from renewable sources.
The goal is to boost the level to around 30 to 35 percent by the year 2040, which would mean a more than four-fold increase from current levels.
The government will reduce the use of coal, a key cause of fine dust.
It will also phase out nuclear power by not extending the lifespan of old nuclear plants.
Currently, coal accounts for about 40 percent of the country’s total electricity needs, while renewable power makes up around eight percent.
A more detailed plan on renewable power usage will be announced later this year.
