the AU review's Larry Heath chats to Patrick and Joe of Fall Out Boy at Soundwave Festival 2015 about writing songs for Oscar-winning movies, their attitudes towards the band before college, how having kids changes your perspective and the sense of responsibility they feel towards their fans.
Fall Out Boy are enjoying the success of their song "Immortal" featured in Big Hero 6 which recently won an Oscar for "Best Animated Feature Film", "we went to the premier - it was fun... It was crazy to watch that movie". When asked about the potential for a new, younger audience, the boys said "The way we've seen people react has changed our perspective... You get to see a completely different audience".
Patrick and Joe reminisce about how their attitudes towards their band changed as they became more successful, "You find out that so many people, for every band here, there are people for whom that's like their favourite thing, and their big escape - you've gotta take that with a certain degree of responsibility... it makes you put that much more into it..."
