Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Phase 6: 59 Seats, 7 States to Vote; Battle for Delhi

2019-05-11 1

By the end of 12th May, we'll be done with 6 phases, with only 1 phase to go. Most of India has voted and phase 6 of the crucial Lok Sabha Polls will witness a contest for 59 seats spread across 7 states. All eyes on the battle for the national capital. Since 1998, the result in Delhi has translated into who ultimately forms the government at the centre. In 1998, BJP won 6 of the 7 seats, and the BJP came to power. This was repeated in 1999, when the BJP won all seats and once again formed the govt. In 2004 and 2009, Delhi went in the congress' favour and we know who came to power. 2014 is fresh in our memory, BJP not only swept the national capital, but the entire nation was hit by the Modi wave. A year later though, the political narrative changed in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party, brought to power in the assembly polls by the people of Delhi with an even larger mandate. So will the AAP's confidence translate into votes at the national level. Will the congress and BJP benefit from the alleged anti-incumbency. Is Delhi voting on national issues or will local problems dominate the voter as it heads out to decide the fate of 21 candidates.
