Users on Twitter blasted CNN on Tuesday after the network sent out news alerts and gave prominent coverage to the marriage problems of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt instead of the death of Terrence Crutcher.
Dash cam video released on Monday showed Crutcher with his hands in the air moments before he was shot and killed by Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby. The Tulsa police chief confirmed that Crutcher’s vehicle had broken down and that he was unarmed when he was shot.
But readers could have easily missed the link to the Crutcher story buried on CNN.com because the site instead made its feature story about Jolie’s move to divorce Pitt.
“It’s over,” the CNN.com page announced in large type.
On Twitter, many readers complained that they had received news alerts about the Hollywood marriage instead of notifications about police killing an unarmed black man.
