Michael Avenatti Charged With Stealing Millions From Clients Avenatti has been indicted
on 36 counts of fraud, perjury,
failure to pay taxes, embezzlement
and other financial crimes. He is accused of stealing millions
from five different clients, and funneling the funds through
various shell companies and bank accounts. His crimes were discovered in 2018
when one of his clients lost their disability
payments as a result of Avenatti’s deceit. He also failed to file personal income
tax returns, as well as tax returns for
his law firms, between 2015 and 2017. Avenatti was arrested in March for
allegedly attempting to extort
$20 million from Nike. He is currently free on a $300,000
bond, and has taken to Twitter to
proclaim his innocence. Michael Avenatti,
via statement Avenatti’s combined crimes hold a
maximum sentence of 382 years in prison.
