Assange is wanted in the US over an investigation into WikiLeaks' leaking of classified documents concerning the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The US Department of Justice said the charge related specifically to conspiracy to commit computer intrusion with US whistleblower Chelsea Manning.
