The former commander of the U.S. Forces Korea has highlighted the need to create an international "North Korea Economic Development Fund" in order to speed up the denuclearization process.
Speaking at a conference on Korean affairs in New York on Wednesday, Vincent Brooks said that North Korea should be reassured that financial support would be provided for their economic development once the regime denuclearizes.
He said that South Korea and the U.S. should lead Pyeongyang to take practical disarmament steps by providing a specific blueprint on how the regime could develop.
Brooks however stressed that such support should be given after the North denuclearizes,... and that until then, the UN Security Council sanctions should continue.
