Jussie Smollett's
Dropped Charges Cause
Protests in Chicago Smollett was indicted last
month for allegedly staging
a hate crime against himself. The charges were later dropped
in exchange for his $10,000 bond
and community service hours. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered
outside of State Attorney Kim Foxx’s
office on Monday to protest. Foxx recused herself from the case
in February and has denied being
involved in the decision to drop it. The Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.)
announced they would be protesting
Foxx in outrage over the case’s handling. A number of activists launched a
counter-protest in response
but were vastly outnumbered. F.O.P. members have demanded an
investigation into Foxx and the
Smollet case, arguing she broke
the law by dropping the charges. Retired Officer Patrick Learnahan,
via ‘Chicago Sun-Times’ Counter-protesters accused the
F.O.P. of using the Smollett case
as an excuse to smear Foxx. Reverend Michael Pfleger,
