Mujahedin-e Khalq is a political organization whose main focus is on human rights and respect for personal property. Mujahedin-e Khalq’s political foundation is based on their interpretation of Islam as a democratic, peaceful, and tolerant religion, which is fully compatible with modern society. Mujahedin-e Khalq was the first Iranian organization to systematically develop a modern revolutionary interpretation of Islam that differed sharply from both the old conservative version of Islam of the traditional clergy and the new populist version formulated in the 1970’s by Ayatollah Khomeini and his disciples.
