Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mocked Republican Senator Mike Lee's suggestion while arguing against the Green New Deal that we fix climate change by having more kids. "Like many other women + working people, I occasionally suffer from impostor syndrome: those small moments, especially on hard days, where you wonder if the haters are right," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a Tuesday tweet. "But then they do things like this to clear it right up. If this guy can be Senator, you can do anything." Ocasio-Cortez also included a link to the Senator's statement on the matter.
"The solution to climate change is not this unserious resolution that we are considering this week but rather the serious business of human flourishing," Lee declared on the Senate floor. "The solution to so many of our problems at all times and in all places is to fall in love, get married, and have some kids." Lee did not go on to provide specifics on how those things will counter greenhouse gas emissions, rising temperatures, sea level change, more frequent flooding and other natural disasters.
The Green New Deal is being championed by Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats in an effort to tackle climate change.
"The proposal calls on the federal government to wean the United States from fossil fuels and curb planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions across the economy. It also aims to guarantee new high-paying jobs in clean energy industries," notes the New York Times.
