After growing up under junta rule, Thailand’s first-time voters hope the election will finally restore democracy

Having spent their formative years living under military rule, Thailand’s young people have faced restrictions on freedom of speech and assembly. They now have the chance to vote in the country’s first election since the junta took over in a coup in 2014. The South China Morning Post spoke to three young voters, who are excited to take part in the democracy process, but weary that if history were to repeat itself, Sunday’s vote may not actually bring about change.
