A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing water at Steve King.
A 26-year-old Colorado man has been arrested after being accused of throwing water on controversial Republican Congressman Steve King, notes CBS News.
According to a news release issued by the Fort Dodge Police Department in Iowa, authorities were called on Friday around 12:30 p.m. "regarding an assault at the Mineral City Mill and Grill restaurant."
"When officers arrived on scene, they discovered the intended victim, United States Representative Steve King, was having a group lunch when an unknown male approached their table," the release continues. "The male approached Mr. King, inquired as to his identity, and ultimately threw a glass of water on Mr. King. Others having lunch with Mr. King were also struck."
Fort Dodge Police then identified the suspect as 26-year-old Blake Gibbins of Lafayette, Colorado, who was subsequently arrested and charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.
The Des Moines Register has since reported, citing authorities, that "Gibbins did not know King was going to be at the restaurant, police say, and was in Iowa visiting family."
King, who is believed to have been "specifically targeted," is viewed as a divisive figure in Congress due to comments many have perceived to be racist and discriminatory.
