The EU's chief Brexit negotiator says the UK must offer something new in order for the EU to accept a Brexit delay.
His comments comes as British Prime Minister Theresa May is scheduled to request an extension.
Nothing to EU wants a new proposal, Michel Barnier said a second referendum or a general election could be two reasons to authorize a delay.
He ruled out the possibility of May asking for a short extension while seeking a longer one as a backup.
May will attend an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday to discuss an extension.
All 27 EU members have to agree to an extension for it to get the greenlight.
