As the wheel of fortune turned to mark the dawn of the 4-stroke era in 2002, Ducati re-joined the MotoGP World Championship. And they did it with style by unveiling their machine at WorldSBK and getting down to the business of winning immediately. Troy Baylis and Loris Capirossi were the first GP3 riders for Ducati in Japan, and they were off on their motos right from the gunshot. Capirossi seized the 3rd position in that match and soon he would go on to deliver a sensational win at the Catalan GP that year.
However, barring Capirossi the following year would prove to be ineffective as they shifted to the GP4 machine. In 2007, the Australian Casey Stoner with his distinct style of racing would join forces with Ducati's incredible top speed GP7 machine. The combo worked wonders as Stoner would wind-up with 10 wins, finishing the podium 4 times to claim Ducati's first and so far only MotoGP World Championship. Ducati continues to search for the "Numero Uno" since then and with Andrea Dovizioso finishing 2nd overall in 2017, the trend suggests that it's just a matter of time...
