Before the monsoon set in, the Corporation of Chennai had made several tall claims about being rain ready. But now with the city in knee-deep water, the civic body's assertions have gone down its clogged drains, literally. The waterlogged neighbourhoods have raised questions about the efficacy of the storm water drainage system and also exposed the shoddy pre-monsoon desilting work. Sources say there is no transparency in the desilting contracts and work done in several localities was not satisfactory. This has not only resulted in citizen's distress, but brought huge financial loss to the corporation.
