It's a reprieve much overdue. A massive potential face-off between the IB and the CBI has been averted by the centre. The Home Minister monday morning has rejected the CBI's demand to prosecute 4 IB officers accused of faking the encounter of 19 year old Ishrat Jahan in 2004. Highly placed sources in government have told NewsX that the Ministry of Home Affairs feels that the evidence against these officers is circumstantial. The decision not only keeps the peace between the two intelligence services crucial to India's internal security but also suggests that the centre is convinced that Ishrat was a Lashkar agent tasked with the assassination of then Gujarat CM Modi. Thus far the UPA has implied that Ishrat Jahan and the 3 others killed along with her weren't terrorists.
