Wary of the fallout of the Ranaghat gang rape case, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday handed over the case to CBI. Her decision comes four days after the CID probe drew a blank. "The Ranaghat incident of March 14, 2015 is a very serious matter. The police administration was instructed to take swift action to nab the culprits. They are making their best efforts," she wrote on Facebook. Three suspects had been detained (among 10) whose facial features resembled the CCTV grab but had to be released for want of corroborative evidence. CID has also raised an alarm that the robbers-rapists may have slipped over to the border to Bangladesh. NHRC issues notice to Bengal government.
