After the controversy generated by former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju's allegation of corruption in judiciary, the Centre = pushed for reforms in the judicial appointment process.
The Law Ministry has began consultations to prepare a draft to change the collegium system, whereby judges appoint judges. The government's plans to bring a Bill to make the process of appointments more transparent but it might take some more time.
