The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the execution of two of the four men involved in December 2012 Delhi gangrape and murder.
Defence lawyer AP Singh said, "The Supreme Court had stayed the death sentence of Akshay and Vinay till the final order. This case of stay on death penalty will now be heard by a three-judge bench."
The father of the December 16 Delhi gangrape victim on Monday said he was not happy with the Supreme Court's decision to suspend the death sentence of two of the convicts.
"I am not happy with the decision of the Supreme Court to issue a stay order on the high court's decision to give death sentence to two of those gangrape convicts," the victim's father said.
"The incident happened with my daughter. Despite the brutal act, she wanted to live but I failed to save her life. I have lost everything after her death. The Supreme Court judges should have feelings like me before taking any decision," said the distraught father.
He said his family members were shocked over the Supreme Court's decision.
"My last demand is death sentence to the convicts. I will fight for that," he added.
Earlier, Akshay Thakur and Vinay Sharma had appealed against their death sentence.
The Delhi High Court had confirmed the sentence of Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh in the Delhi gangrape that shook the nation's conscience and led to widespread protests.
A bench of justices Reva Khetrapal and Pratibha Rani had confirmed the sentence to all four accused, saying the offence committed by them fell in the category of rarest of the rare and upheld their conviction.
On the night of December 16, 2012, Ram Singh, Vinay, Akshay, Pawan, Mukesh and a juvenile had gangraped the girl in a bus after luring her and her 28-year-old male friend, who was also assaulted, on board the vehicle, which was later found to be plying illegally on Delhi roads.
The girl succumbed to her injuries on December 29, 2012 in a Singapore hospital.
Ram Singh, who was the prime accused, was found dead in his cell in Tihar Jail in March last year and the proceedings against him were abated.
The sixth accused, the juvenile was on August 31, 2013 convicted and sentenced to a maximum of three years in a reformation home by the juvenile justice board.
