NCPCR Chief: Maneka's remark against Juvenile Justice Act

2019-03-01 0

After big debates and strong considerations, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Sunday stated that the juveniles accused of odious crimes such as rape should be treated on par with adult offenders.

While talking to the media, prominent leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed that as per the police reports, 50 percent of all sexual crimes were committed by '16 year olds who know the Juvenile Justice Act so they can do it'.

"But now for premeditated murder, rape, if we bring them into the purview of the adult world, then it will scare them," said Gandhi.
While talking exclusively to NewsX, Kushal Singh, the NCPCR Chief still opposes the remarks from Maneka Gandhi and informed that the statistics shared by Gandhi that 50% of the crimes are made by juveniles is incorrect and does not match statistics that NCPCR holds.
