At least 14 people were killed and many sustained injuries after a gas leakage and blast in a pipeline of state-owned Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in Andhra Pradesh early Friday.
The mishap took place around 6am in East Godavari district's Nagaram village, two weeks after six people died in a gas leakage in Chhattisgarh's Bhilai Steel Plant.
In Friday's tragedy, many of the deceased were local residents living in huts in coconut groves through which the gas pipeline passed. The bodies were charred beyond recognition.
"As per initial reports we have received, 14 deaths have been reported and some more are critically injured and undergoing treatment,"
