Sceptical of Maharashtra government's classification of Pune techie Mohsin Shaikh's murder by alleged Hindu Rashtra Sena activists as a mere 'law and order' incident, the Centre has asked the state why it should not be treated as a case of communal violence.
A day after it received the state government's report classifying the brutal killing of Shaikh as an ordinary crime, a senior official of the Centre-state division of the Union home ministry reverted, asking whether any compensation was paid to the victim's family under the Central scheme for assistance to civilian victims of terrorist, communal and Naxal violence.
