Arvind Kejriwal, the top man of the Aam Aadmi Party or AAP, has been hit in Delhi while campaigning.
Mr Kejriwal was punched in the back in the Dakshinpuri area of South Delhi while he was shaking hands with supporters.
Later the man was thrashed by AAP workers and handed over to the police.
"Our religion teaches us non-violence. If we raise our hands, this movement will come to an end," Mr Kejriwal said.
