Eight months after lodging an FIR, social activist Soma Mukherjee was arrested Wednesday for protesting outside the Writers' Building against the gangrape and murder of a college girl at Kamduni village in North-24 Parganas district.
Soma, a member of APDR and Nari Chetana Mancha had led a delegation to the Writers on June 10, last yaer, a day after the victim was found raped and murdered.
The delegation wanted to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and wanted to submit a deputation, but were stopped outside the secretariat building by police.
The FIR was lodged with the Hare Street police station on June 10 against 15 women activists who were demonstrating outside the Writers'. However, the women activists including Soma were not aware of the FIR until police submitted a chargesheet on January 3 against eight activists including Soma Mukherjee, Saswati Ghosh, Bolan Ganguly, Krishna Bandypadhyay, Soma Mukherjee, Joyeeta Das, Rupasree Sarkar, Anuradha Talwar and Rangta Munshi.
