Tarun Tejpal's bail plea to be heard today

A chargesheet in the sexual assault case allegedly involving Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal was submitted by the crime branch of Goa Police on Monday.

Crime branch charged Tejpal for rape. The chargesheet runs into 2,846 pages.

The chargesheet has been submitted before the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Panaji, which would subsequently be handed over to the district and sessions court.

The chargesheet runs into 2,846 pages, which included 132 pages of main chargesheet, 30 pages of witnesses and annexure papers running into 2684 pages. Police have recorded the statement of 152 witnesses, including that of investigating officer Sunita Sawant.

Crime branch, in the chargesheet said that, "There is sufficient evidence available in the form of documents, statements and electronic records, on record, to prove that on November, 7 2013, the victim was raped, sexually harassed, and her modesty outraged inside an elevator in the lift of starred hotel, Bambolim, Goa by her own employer Tejpal."

Police want to prosecute Tejpal under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (outrage modesty), 341 (Wrongfully restrain), 342 (wrong confinement), 376 (Rape), 376(2) (f) (person in position of trust for authority over a women committees rape on such women) and 376(2) (k) (rape of a women by a person being in position of control or dominance over the women) IPC.
