The Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana criticised the anti-toll campaign started by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, calling it politically motivated and carried out by those seeking to get political mileage out of the exercise.
"Toll needs to end. The Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI alliance is committed to this. However, some political parties, which were sleeping till now, have woken up and attacked toll booths in the night. People have understood their pretentiousness. There are many Toms, Dicks and Harrys in politics it is best to ignore such people," said an editorial.
MNS cadre across Maharashtra had gone on a rampage after party president Raj Thackeray told his supporters not to pay toll and thrash anyone who forced them to pay. The Shiv Sena claimed that the anti-toll campaign was initiated by it and the MNS was trying to hijack the issue.
