Before the two sisters from the city registered their complaints of rape against religious leader Asaram and his son Narayan Sai, it was always difficult to approach police with accusations against the duo. Parents of two students of a school run by Asaram had faced difficulties in registering their complaints with police after Dipesh and Abhishek were found dead under mysterious circumstances in 2008 in Ahmedabad. The reason was D G Vanzara, controversial IPS officer, now in jail in fake encounter cases, alleged Dr Amrut Prajapati, one time close associate of Asaram.
Prajapati was the first person in Gujarat to raise voice against Asaram's illegal activities. An Ayurved doctor, he had spent several years at Asaram Ashram at Jahangirpura in Surat. After he quit in 2005, he began receiving threats from Asaram's followers.
