NewsX: BJP councillor in Gujarat forced to quit for having third child

India possibly took one of its first steps towards population control when a popular BJP councillor in the party-controlled Rajkot Municipal Corporation was resigned from his seat after he had a third child.

Sanjay Dhava had violated section 10 (j) of the Gujarat Municipal Act introduced by the Narendra Modi government in 2005 which prohibits any one having more than two children from remaining a member of a municipal body in the state.The 45-year-old businessman, who had defeated former mayor Ashok Dangar in the 2010 municipal polls, quit on Monday, four months after his wife gave birth to a boy. Rishi was born after two daughters -- Charmi (11) and Dhruvi (7).
