Parliament rocked for the third straight day as the BJP tears into the govt over the LoC intrusion. But government manages to table its ambitious and expensive food bill in parliament.
On the face of it, the bill, if passed, will help the government provide 5kg of subsidised grain monthly to nearly 800 million poor people.
But the government's critics claim that the food bill is a political masterstroke by the Congress to win votes ahead of the crucial general elections next year.
The ambitious legislation, which will cost 1.3 trillion rupees a year is being called one of the world's largest welfare schemes ever. Question is will the bill be passed in Parliament during the 17-day monsoon session.
