NewsX: A Tarn Taran police sub-inspector's revelations about the brutal killing of people during the dark days of terrorism in the state have put Punjab police in a spot and forced senior officials to suspend him over his public utterances.
The SI, Surjit Singh, told mediapersons on June 29 at Tarn Taran that he had killed 83 people in encounters, a few of them fake ones, during the militancy days. The cop was immediately suspended by the SSP. The SI had even reportedly approached Tarn Taran SSP office to "unravel the truth."
Surjit had joined the police force in 1989 as a constable. He was promoted in 1992 as SHO. "I don't know why I was promoted quickly. My bosses were very happy with me," he said.
