Southwest Monsoon made its onset over East India around June 20, a bit late than its usual date. Bihar, West Bengal and
Jharkhand have received good rain in the beginning. However, the three subdivisions of West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand
remained deficient by the end of June.
The first few days of July also remained mostly dry. But after July 5, the region received a prolonged spell of rain and
the rainfall figures improved significantly. Good rains were observed over most parts of the three states providing the
much needed relief to the residents of the region. Farmers also heaved a sigh of relief after rains lashed Bihar,
Jharkhand and West Bengal.
