The Gujarat Congress and minority leaders have voiced support for the High Court order to the Narendra Modi government to implement the Centre's pre-matric minority scholarship scheme. On Friday, the Gujarat High Court had snubbed Modi's objections to the scheme upholding its constitutional validity. The Court had said the scheme was an "affirmative action" and not a discriminatory scheme, as alleged by the Narendra Modi govt. It also said that such a scheme would be permissible looking at the backwardness of minority community.
