Taking into consideration the present state of river Ganga, the Supreme Court on Wednesday criticised the Centre and state pollution control boards for their failure to take action against defaulters.
The Supreme Court pulled up the Centre as well as pollution control boards for failing to act against polluting industries functioning on the banks of the holy river.
The SC has further asked the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to monitor and take action against all such polluting industrial units.
Earlier, the government had also warned of stringent action against industries that are violating pollution norms on the banks of the river Ganga and its tributaries.
