The Shiv Sena, a former ally of the BJP in Maharashtra, said on Monday it was ready to support whoever the BJP picked as the next chief minister of the state.
"Only the BJP will decide whom to make the chief minister, but the Shiv Sena, for the betterment of Maharashtra, will support it," said an editorial published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna.
The BJP has won 122 seats in the Assembly elections while the Shiv Sena bagged 63 seats.
"Many names are coming forward for the chief minister's post but it is (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi and (BJP chief) Amit Shah who will take the final call. It is because of them that the BJP did well in the Maharashtra Assembly elections," it said.
The party said either Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari or state BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis would be the chief minister.
