A guard of honour was presented on Thursday to visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping at Rashtrapati Bhavan.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and Chinese President Xi Jinping during Mr Xi's ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with his wife Peng Liyuan, 51, a well accomplished folk-singer and a household name in China, are being received by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and state Governor OP Kohli. Due to the warm and sunny weather, attractive and decorated umbrellas were held over the first couple of China.
Continuing border tensions, especially the stand-off in Ladakh, could not come in the way of the public display of warmth. The chemistry between the two leaders was quite evident as they chatted continuously and looked completely relaxed in each other's company. They visited the Gandhi Ashram on the banks of the Sabarmati and later enjoyed a walk down the beautifully decorated riverfront, a pet project of Modi when he was chief minister, where Gujarati culture and cuisine added to the bonhomie.
