Spelling out the BJP government’s tough anti-terror stand, home minister Rajnath Singh said his government will soon bring back India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim. He also said ‘’India has the strength to meet any challenge by Al Qaeda or ISIS’’ even as he urged Naxals to give up arms and come to the negotiating table.

Dawood, the mastermind of the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that claimed around 300 lives, is reportedly enjoying shelter in Pakistan. The home minister on Friday also said that talks with Pakistan will happen only if it responds like a responsible neighbour. On possible talks with his Pakistani counterpart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan during the forthcoming Saarc meeting in Nepal, Mr Singh said if neighbours work on expected lines, talks are not impossible. “Padosi agar apeksha ke anuroop kaam karein, toh baatcheet kyun nahi ho sakti? (If neighbours work on expected lines, then why can’t talks happen),” Mr Singh replied. On security scenario on the Indo-Pak border, he said clear directions have been given to deal with ceasefire violations. “I am visiting border areas and surveying vulnerabilities so that steps can be taken to strengthen the border areas. We have enhanced border policing, patrolling and surveillance systems also clear directions have been given to forces to deal with cross-border firing.”

He said Indian agencies are in the process of verifying the Al Qaeda video which talks of the global terror outfit’s decision to set up its Indian wing. He touted the 132 surrenders of Maoists within 100 days of the Modi government as an achievement which he said is a sharp contrast to the 44 Naxal surrenders in the corresponding period last year during the UPA regime. “We are ready to talk to anyone who leaves the path of violence. We have even asked their ideologues to come to negotiating table,” he said.
